Today, hunting is no longer necessary to put meat on the table or to make tools from sinews and bones. The culture-historical meaning of hunting has evolved over the millenia, along with hunting methods and techniques.
Since 1968, Landshut Castle is the home of the Swiss Museum of Wildlife and Hunting, the only hunting museum in Switzerland. As such, its first priority is not simply to awaken some kind of "Thrill of the Hunt", but rather to inform about people that hunt, about hunted wildlife as well as the the art of hunting.

Winter break
From 17 October 2022 to 13 May 2023, the castle and the Swiss Museum of Wildlife and Hunting are closed.
On Mother's Day, 14 May, the castle gate is opening for the 2023 season with a new special exhibition, an exciting supporting programme and a series of the monthly evening tours on current topics from the world of hunting.

Webcam jackdaw nest
In one of the hidden nest boxes in the castle dungeon, a webcam allows you to discreetly observe the life and brooding of a pair of jackdaws, which are part of the colony in Landshut. Watch the hustle and bustle in the jackdaw's nest live!

Heritage Hunting - Kidswest in the Castle
The children of the intercultural art workshop 'Kidswest' were inspired by the atmosphere of the hunting museum in Landshut Castle. This resulted in (wild) animal mini-comics. > continue to the Kidswest blog

Hunting: The Art of the Chase
Hunting is as fascinating as it is controversial. It is part of the complex web of relationships between people and animals and remains a living tradition in mountain regions. But the feelings it elicits in society are ambivalent. Although humans have hunted animals for food since prehistoric times, many people think that hunting is no longer appropriate in our day and age.
Have we lost touch with how our food ends up on our plates?
Explore the life of our huntable and protected wild animals as well as the world of hunting in all its interesting and surprising facets on a tour through the castle and the grain houses.
The permanent exhibitions can be visited at any time during the season opening times.

Some Thursdays from May to September, a guided evening tour offers exciting insights into topics related to the world of hunting, our native wildlife and nature.
